Bibimbap

Bibimbap is a traditional Korean dish. The word literally means "mixed rice". 

It is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with vegetables and pepper paste. A raw or fried egg and sliced meat are common additions. The ingredients are stirred together thoroughly just before eating.

In Korea, Jeonju is especially famous place for bibimbap.

How to make Bibimbap

Ingredients
  • Cooked rice
  • a bunch of spinach
  • 2 small size of zucchinis
  • 5-7 shiitake mushrooms
  • 200 grams of ground beef (about half a pound)
  • 1 small carrot, eggs
  • soy sauce, pepper paste, garlic, sesame seeds, sesame oil, and vegetable oil.

Recipe

  1. Cook rice. You can use a rice cooker or a stainless pot.
  2. Next, you need to prepare a large platter to put all your ingredients on. Rinse your  bean sprouts 3 times and put them in a pot with a cup of water. Add 1 ts of salt and cook for 20 minutes. Drain water and mix it with 1 clove of minced garlic, sesame oil and a pinch of salt.
    Put it on the platter.
  3. Put your spinach in a pot of boiling water and stir it for a minute. Then rinse it in cold water a few times and squeeze it lightly. Mix it with a pinch of salt, 1 ts of soy sauce, 1 clove of minced garlic and sesame oil. Put it on the platter
  4. Cut 2 small size zucchinis into thin strips, sprinkle them with a pinch of salt, and then mix them together. A few minutes later, sauté them in a pan over high heat. When it’s cooked, it will look a little translucent. Put it on the platter.



  5. You can buy soaked and cooked “kosari” at a Korean grocery store. Prepare about 2 or 3 cups of kosari for this 4 servings of bibimbap. Cut it into pieces 5-7 cm long and sauté in a heated pan with 1 ts of vegetable oil. Stir and add 1 tbs of soy sauce, 1/2 tbs of sugar, and cook them for 1-2 minutes. Add sesame oil. Put it on the platter.
  6. Slice shitake mushrooms thinly and sauté with 1 ts of vegetable oil. Add 2 ts of soy sauce and 1 or 2 ts of sugar and stir it for 2 minutes. Add some sesame oil, and put it on the platter.
  7. On a heated pan, put some oil and 200 grams of ground beef and stir it. Add 4 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tbs of soy sauce, 1/2  tbs of sugar, a little grounded black pepper, and sesame oil.
    Put it on the platter.
  8. Cut a carrot into strips, sauté it for 30 seconds and put it on the platter.
  9. prepare eggs with sunny side up.
  10. Put your rice In a big bowl, and attractively display all your vegetables and meat t. Place the sunny side up egg on the center.
  11. Serve it with sesame oil and hot pepper paste.
  12. Lastly, mix it up and eat!

Bulgogi

Do you know korean barbecue, Bulgogi?  

Bulgogi is a well known Korean food where beef is grilled after being sliced thin and seasoned in sauce. It has less fat than just grilled beef since its sliced into a thin piece. Beef tastes soft, therefore tenderloin, and sirloin are mostly used for Bulgogi. Bulgogi is eaten with lot of different vegetables so, it's less greasy.

Bulgogi literally means "fire meat" in korean. It is listed at number 23 on World's 50 most delicious foods readers' poll compiled by CNN Go in 2011.

Bulgogi can be enjoyed with rice by mixing it with the soup that is provided with the meat. When meat is eaten with onions, its more delicious.
In Korea, there is also Bulgogi burger in fast-food restaurants.   







How to make Bulgogi


Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (MSG) (optional)
  • 1 pound beef top sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped


Directions
  1. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, garlic, sugar, salt, black pepper, and MSG. Place beef, carrots, and onions in the bag; seal, and shake to coat the vegetables and beef with the sauce. Refrigerate for at least 2 1/2 hours. I prefer to marinate mine overnight.
  2. Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat. Remove meat and vegetables from marinade, and place on a large sheet of aluminum foil; seal. Discard marinade.
  3. Place on grill, and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, or to desired doneness.

Kimchi, the taste of korea

Every country has their own typical food. The kimchi is definitely one of many typical and traditional Korean food and considered as a essential food in Korea. Most korean enjoy eating kimchi for side dish at almost every meal.



 
WHAT IS KIM-CHI?
Kimchi, kind of korean pickle, is made of vegetables(most often cabbage) with a variety of seasonings such as salt, garlic, fish sauce, hot pepper powder, and onions etc. And the taste and how to make the kimchi is different depends on the area.
When you try the Kimchi for the first time, you may feel too spicy and strong smell but Kimchi is a very healthful food. Kimchi is rich in vitamin A, thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), calcium and iron, and contains a number of lactic acid bacteria. Also, the US magazine Health named kimchi in its list of top five "World's Healthiest Foods" for being rich in vitamins, aiding digestion, and even possibly retarding cancer growth.




There are hundreds of varieties of kimchi made with a main vegetable ingredient such as napa cabbage, radish, scallion or cucumber.



Kimchi is also a main ingredient for many Korean dishes such as kimchi stew, kimchi soup, kimchi fried rice, kimchi pancake etc.
